Get creative with promotional merchandise
Creative Promotional products can make you think!
Wikipedia defines creativity as ‘a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an idea, a scientific theory, a musical composition, or a joke) or a physical object (such as an invention, a literary work, or a painting).’
So creativity is something that’s not really been seen before, or at least not in a particular way. It’s interesting that the definition states not only ‘innovative’ but ‘valuable’, because we think the best promotional gifts are useful and valuable too!
We’ve had a trawl to find six truly creative promotional products. Like all lists it’s not definitive but we hope it might prove inspiring in terms of what can be achieved with promotional merchandise.
So, in no particular order …
1) The Economist. This mighty magazine title decided to keep things simple with some promotional red balloons (red to echo the magazine’s masthead), but made the promotion special by stamping them with a graphic of the human brain. Perfect for promoting the magazine’s stimulating and brain-improving content.
2) Nivea. Some years ago now, but to promote a cellulite product at a launch, custom-made sofas were designed with half of the back of the sofa studded (to demonstrate the cellulite) while the other half was perfectly smooth to show the effect of the product.
3) Alzheimer’s New Zealand. A brave step here with a promotional campaign centered on genuine pencil erasers with USB memory sticks inside. To help raise awareness of this distressing condition the message ran, ‘Alzheimer’s Erasers Your Memories. Save Them.’
4) Google Cardboard. Launched at a Google developers’ conference this stunned punters who were asked to assemble a cardboard headset kit. When they popped their mobile phones inside they were propelled into a breathtaking virtual world.
5) Monster.com. Again, a few years ago this one but a corker! To demonstrate how one can get stuck in the wrong job and to signpost how to get out via Monster.com, a gun-toting pink ballet dancer was included in a bag of otherwise regular green plastic soldiers, and looked, as anticipated, totally out of place!
6) Iams Austrilia. Finally, and very creative, a dog frisbees designed to look like a barbell weight. A great example of how to get a brand message across in a fun way.
